This past Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the TakeOver Lounge in The Pop Up, Katipunan, PRM witnessed the third installment of filtered music and PolyEast Record’s “Rak and Rap” series, dedicated to showcasing the record labels’ Rock and Hip-hop artists. As the event occurred on Halloween, performers and attendees alike came in their best costumes to rock ‘n bop the night away.

The first performer of the night was rock songstress, Gloryen, who cosplayed Hailey Bieber in a stunning red dress and was accompanied by her bandmates who dressed up as funeral corpses wearing barongs with bandanas wrapped around their jaw and heads, and tissues in their nostrils. She kicked off the gig in style by performing a few songs from her recently released self-titled EP and two unreleased songs that had the crowd nodding and headbanging early into the night. She was then followed by the ever-energetic SUYEN who showed up wearing a Japanese schoolgirl uniform, with her bandmates wearing Japanese schoolboy outfits to match. With the crowd gathered around her, she performed an upbeat pop ‘n punk rock set that featured her latest single, “Tampo”, and had people jumping up and down. Continuing the theme of powerful women performing rock music, jikamarie and her bandmates took the stage, with all of them dressed up as different characters from movies and TV. She then delivered a super soulful set full of sincerity and stank face-worthy moments, consisting of originals and covers such as the empowering “DKSI!” (Dun Ka Sa Iba) and her rendition of SZA’s “Snooze”.

As the first half of the night belonged to the rockers, the second half was for the rappers and hip-hop heads. Rizal-born hip-hop trio, Rizon, though not wearing any costumes per se, showed up dripped out in their best outfits and ready to give everyone a good time. They performed a set full of bops and bangers like their latest single, “Get Bounce”, which lived up to its title and had everyone in the venue bouncing. They were followed up by fellow Rizal-based rapper and last act of the night, Taggsign, who rocked the face paint of gothic superhero, The Crow. He topped off the evening with a vibe-filled set featuring songs like his latest single “Away Bati”, which had people grooving and bobbing their heads. In the end, Rak and Rap successfully took over the TakeOver Lounge and provided attendees with a unique Halloween experience they wouldn’t have had anywhere else.
