Last April 3, 2025, IPOPHL warmly welcomed the Philippines Recorded Music Rights Inc. (PRM) team as they paid a courtesy visit to the new presiding Director General (DG), Atty. Brigitte da Costa-Villaluz. Since her appointment as IPOPHL's DG last January, she has continuously met with intellectual property stakeholders, such as collective management organizations (CMOs) like PRM.
Head of Licensing, Francis Buen, alongside PRM’s Chairman and former IPOPHL DG Atty. Ricardo Blancaflor, delivered to the attending IPOPHL members a company brief, formally starting the discussion; the introduction comprised three key points: what PRM is, who it represents, and its value proposition in the music industry. Having worked with a few music stakeholders herself, the DG demonstrated strong familiarity with intellectual property (IP) in the music industry as she shared her thoughts on the current affairs of PRM as a CMO.
In terms of partnership activities, the DG extended multiple opportunities for PRM to collaborate with IPOPHL this April—National Intellectual Property Month. One of the most anticipated IP events is World Intellectual Property Day, to be celebrated on April 26, 2025, with a running theme of “IP and Music: Bringing the Pinoy Beat to the World.” As champions of IP in the Philippine music industry, PRM underscored its dedication to making April a success by supporting IPOPHL’s anticipated activities.
In addition to this, the DG congratulated the team after the successful on-ground launch party of The Official Philippines Chart. Atty. da Costa-Villaluz, to note, was one of the key attendees and award presenters that night. She commended the rightful recognition of the artists and songs that populated last year’s soundtracks.
Both PRM and IPOPHL expressed their commitment to empowering the music industry in this productive discussion. DG Atty. da Costa-Villaluz was quick to assure the PRM team that IPOPHL would do its best to support them, especially in their licensing activities. PRM, likewise, affirmed its enthusiasm to support IPOPHL’s projects that will bolster IP awareness in music.
Watch out for exciting activities ahead as PRM and IPOPHL continuously champion intellectual property for music.
