Tomorrow, August 13, from 1 to 4 PM, OPM and IPOPHL are to host an online discussion on intellectual property (IP) rights via Zoom.
As part of their Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) activities, Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit will present LMP25: Music Talk Series – IP Rights for Musicians with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). It will cover the basics of IP, specifically copyright, to aid artists in protecting and profiting off of their craft.
Last July 26, OPM hosted the first LMP25: Music Talk Series at Greenhills Cinema alongside Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP). The talk comprised of three (3) key sessions, namely: (1) songwriting, (2) music production, and (3) music licensing and distribution; each session was comprised of a well-curated panel and covered the must-knows of the abovementioned topics.
For tomorrow's discussion, IPR Specialist II Marilou Ilacio, Atty. Nicole Joy Regencia, and Atty. Exequiel D. Valerio—all hailing from IPOPHL Bureau of Copyright and Related Rights department—will spearhead the Zoom session. In addition, PRM's Head of Licensing, Francis Buen, will share a report on the ever-growing music landscape, covering both local and international consumption, to supplement the discussion on copyright.
With the industry’s exceptional boom, it is high time that artists take necessary steps to, not only gain traction, but to also ensure that their rights are protected.
Mabuhay ang musikang Pilipino!
