PRM recently conducted its first official roadshow of the year with its newest partnered organization, the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit (OPM). The roadshow took place during an OPM meeting presided over by Officer in Charge/Executive Director, Gab Cabangon. Present at the roadshow were members of OPM, signed and unsigned artists alike.

OPM is the premiere organization of Filipino professional singers in the country, providing opportunities and avenues for its members to perform and promote their music, as well as organize events dedicated to improving their skills and technical know-how on music production and navigating the industry. In addition, the organization conducts activities that assist in the day-to-day and healthcare needs of its members, such as fundraising benefit gigs.

PRM’s “roadshows” are events wherein the team would connect with partner record labels and organizations to inform them about its history and role in the music industry. In line with its goal of empowering and protecting the rights of performers of sound recorded music, the PRM team remotely presented the organization to OPM’s members. PRM’s Head of Licensing, Francis Buen began with an icebreaker entitled “Music Madness”, wherein participants answered music trivia questions as fast as they could and were awarded with PRM merchandise. After the fun game, Buen gave a presentation that tackled the history, purpose, organizational structure, and business model of PRM, giving OPM members a 360 overview of the organization and an idea of what’s in store for them under PRM and OPM’s brand new partnership. At the end of his presentation, Buen thanked attendees for their time and urged them to sign a performer mandate with PRM, allowing the organization to collect and distribute royalties on their behalf.

Overall, PRM’s roadshow with OPM signifies PRM’s continued commitment to protect the rights of record labels AND performers alike, providing the opportunity for OPM’s members, regardless of being signed to a record label or not, to better earn from their craft, further incentivizing them to keep creating and performing original Pilipino music.
