Hit maker and charming balladeer TJ Monterde signs with Philippines Recorded Music Rights Inc. (PRM) as a Performer Member and is set to receive the royalties for his chart-topping works from 2021-2022. Among his catalogue of heartfelt songs, TJ is most known for his songs, such as “Palagi” and “Dating Tayo.”

Originally signed under PolyEast Records, TJ Monterde released his first single, “Ikaw at Ako,” a classic hymn to hopeless romantics, which marked the start of his successful career. Thereon, he has released hit after hit, striking the hearts of those who listen to his songs with their captivating lyrics and TJ’s soulful voice; now, TJ is managed by Cornerstone Music.

Perhaps one of his career-defining songs is “Palagi,” a profound narration of a love that persists through the highs and lows of life. Since its release, it has amassed 23 million views on YouTube and more than 200 million Spotify streams, bagging multiple awards from notable music bodies. Palagi, just last February 19, was recognized as the #1 Local Song of the Year 2024 at The Official Philippines Chart Launch Party. The chart, with the launch party mounted by PRM, derives its records from the International Federation of Phonographic Industries’ (IFPI) systems; data from Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and YouTube is collated to produce a weekly list of chart-topping songs. As Palagi drew in millions of swooning Filipinos, the award is a testament to TJ’s talent and efforts.

While Palagi is successful in its own right, his moving rendition of itnow called “Palagi (TJxKZ version)”with his wife KZ Tandingan-Monterde is a rich reminder of TJ’s music directly intertwining with his beau. The duet’s music videos total to more than 90 million, with comments expressing their admiration for the couple’s affections felt through the screen. A sound decision, indeed, to recreate the song together.

When asked about establishments that refuse to pay for licenses to play music, TJ underscores the hard work that comes into producing music. “Everybody should get their fair share,” he expresses in the interview, pertaining to the people who are to receive their due royalties for their efforts and talents. Watch his interview here.

TJ is now part of PRM’s rich member catalogue, which also includes Arthur Miguel, Over October, Ace Banzuelo, and SB19. As we expect more chart-toppers from TJ and other artists themselves, PRM will ensure that their rights are protected through the collection and distribution of their royalties.
